Singing Voice Lessons
Singing voice lessons are a type of vocal training that will help you develop musicality, tone, technique, expression, and so much more as it relates to singing. Our studio offers both drop in and tuition-based lessons, which you can read more about in the studio policies and discuss in a consult. Those looking to pursue singing voice instruction should consider their goals as they enter lessons, to best collaborate with their instructor on how best to reach them.
Gender-Affirming Voice Lessons
Gender-Affirming Voice Lessons
Gender-Affirming Voice Lessons
Gender-affirming voice lessons, or “trans voice lessons” are speaking or singing lessons for those that are looking to align the sound of their voice with their gender. This is a behavioral type of voice training that modifies vocal pitch, resonance, weight, inflection, and speaking patterns stereotypically aligned with each gender. Those looking to begin voice modification with behavioral training need only the willingness and vulnerability to try, and the motivation to commit to weekly practice. Someone engaging in this type of work can expect to see changes from anywhere between 4-30 sessions, depending on a large variety of factors. Please select a “gender affirming consult” when booking.
Singing Voice Rehabilitation
Singing Voice Rehabilitation
Singing Voice Rehabilitation
When singers have pathologies impacting their vocal folds, they need to work with medically-trained specialists (generally voice-specialized speech-language pathologists) who work specifically with the singing voice. Injuries to the singing voice can impact range, vocal quality, stamina, and psychological parameters. Careful rehabilitation includes developing a clear medical baseline (starting with a laryngologist who can perform a stroboscopic exam), taking a detailed medical and voice history, and coming up with a plan that considers each singer's goals and pathology. Singers with pathology often need concomitant speaking voice therapy to effectively rehabilitate their whole voice. You can read more about establishing medical care for the voice on our blog. Treatment areas for voice and upper airway pathologies include (but are not limited to): vocal nodules, polyps, cysts and pseudocysts, hemorrhages, sulcus, atrophy and aging voice, MTD (“muscle tension dysphonia”), Reinke’s edema, paresis and paralysis, neurolaryngeal hypersensitivity (also called “irritable larynx syndrome), laryngeal dystonia (formerly called spasmodic dysphonia), chronic cough, and vocal fold tremor.

Voice Therapy
Speaking voice therapy is offered to those with a medical diagnosis of a vocal pathology that is impacting their daily voice use. Rehabilitation focuses on prescriptive and behavioral changes grounded in somatic awareness to help the patient learn new daily voice patterns that are efficient and support the patient’s voice goals. A great place to start is by reading our blog post "Establishing Medical Care for the Voice".
We do recommend that all singers have a baseline scope done by a qualified, board-certified laryngologist (more specialized than an ENT), and that anyone with voice problems get established with a voice center for a baseline scope.
If you need recommendations for a laryngologist in your area or if you're in NYC, we can help get you set up with a clinic. Please email contact@lotusvoicestudio.com

Speaking voice therapy, singing voice therapy, and gender-affirming voice clients have the option to send their sessions to their insurance using a “superbill”. A superbill is an invoice that does not guarantee coverage, but does provide the possibility of your insurance covering your medical services. We do not currently partner with any insurance, and therefore all sessions are paid out of pocket up front.
