My name is Anna Lowrey, and I am an enthusiastic pedagogue with a love for serval genres of
music. I grew up in the small town of Emlenton, Pennsylvania with the dream of one day going
to college for music. I made that dream a reality when I attended Baldwin Wallace University in
Cleveland, Ohio to get my degree in Vocal Performance. There was only one problem: I was a
classically trained singer who loved to belt. While I am grateful for my classical roots, I never
quite felt like it was a perfect fit. I wanted to sing Alanis Morrisette and Bizet. Not all teachers
look kindly on cross training while studying to be an opera singer, but I was lucky that my
teacher encouraged it. During my senior year, I decided that I wanted my graduate studies to be
more pedagogically focused. Teaching had become my passion, and I wanted a deep
understanding of how to manipulate the mechanism into singing whatever style my students or I
desired. At Shenandoah University I did just that. I majored in Vocal Pedagogy with a
concentration in Contemporary and Commercial music. I was able to learn about evidence-based
pedagogy behind different styles such as pop, rock, music theatre, jazz, and country music.
My goal now is to share the knowledge that I have gained through these two very different
programs with my students. I want to help them become an overall well-rounded singer in
whatever field they strive to be in! My teaching focuses around finding the genre that speaks to
the student and their unique voice. There are no wrong sounds in my studio. Come and fall in
love with the ones that your voice makes.
